Joy A. Johnson

Writer, Co-Producer, Co-Director, Author

Joy A. Johnson, a licensed professional and educator in the beauty industry has traveled

throughout the United States and Europe, teaching. Closer to home, she served as an adjunct

professor at College of Southern Maryland in LaPlata and is a creative art director of

photoshoots for beauty brands. She directs clean corporate-style photoshoots—the type of art

she enjoys the most. Taking creative control on the hair, nails, makeup, and wardrobe all allows

her to tap into an expressive element that doesn't occur often with her every-day clients.

Johnson has been featured in several national magazines and featured on local television

and radio broadcasts and print media centering on the world of cosmetics and fashion. She has

served as a makeup artist on music videos, New York Fashion shows and productions—always

learning the behind-the-scenes details of every production. For more than ten years, she owned

a nail spa with a special focus on cancer survivors and diabetics. Tending to the latter, she also

created a program designed to foster healthy skin and nail care for sufferers, aiming to boost

their morale and self-esteem via beauty. Born and reared in Washington, D.C., Johnson

captured the entrepreneurial spirit and the desire to make women and men look and feel

beautiful, inside, and out, since the age of 16, when her mother, a fashion model and flight

attendant, was killed in a car accident shortly after being diagnosed with breast cancer.

The oldest of three girls, as soon as she was of age, she set her sights on New York’s

Fordham University, and from there, including a few bumps in the road, she worked to realize

her dreams.

Johnson is a natural organizer, planner, delegator. Her natural creativity jelled with her

earned corporate experience presented the perfect timing and partnership with Damion Miller to

create their business JME Media, a Johnson Miller Enterprises, LLC company.

Johnson Miller Enterprises, LLC is a Woman-Owned, Black-Owned Maryland Certified firm

that has several areas of specialty. It offers expertise in Real Estate, IT/Cyber Security, Beauty

Consulting and Commercial Photography/Cinematography. It has a diverse background

resulting in mastery of several industries based on the principal owners melting their skills

together under one umbrella.

Johnson hosts her podcast, slated for a July 2022 release, titled Clean up the Shhh ... This

podcast is a safe digital space for those caught in the middle of juggling kids, the caregiving of

loved ones, and business ambitions. As a host Joy A. Johnson is an author, entrepreneur, lover,

mother, and caretaker helping you keep it all together.

Being an author about her entrepreneurial journey allowed her to reveal many parts of her

life and experience for others to read, learn, and understand. As a filmmaker, she reveals those

same challenges and triumphs in living color. Johnson has produced multi-camera angled LIVE

STREAMED events, taped events, directed small business commercials, and conducted several

on-camera interviews.

Johnson is currently working on a documentary showcasing a Washington DC

treasure—world-renowned living legend Mr. Samuel L. E. Bonds, teacher, and creator of Duke

Ellington's Show Choir, the H.D. Woodson Male Chorale, D.C. Boys Choir, The Washington

Male Chorale and so much more. This project is one of several on the schedule to highlight

those in the DMV community and beyond who make the most impact yet don't get an equal

level of recognition.

Johnson currently resides in Accokeek, MD, and her heart is less than a stone’s throw away

from D.C.
